Pharmacy for a long time has seen retail as a distraction, and it is true that in most cases it only makes up a small % of the overall pharmacy turnover…but that doesn’t mean we need to avoid giving it some TLC!
When did you last walk the floor? Take some time to review product ranges?
Depending on your role within pharmacy the answer is probably a long long time ago. There is so much choice out there that could see you add a decent level of income back in to the pharmacy if some focus is given to this area. Margin can also be gained if you stock the right products in your pharmacy.
Step out of your comfort zone…
Customers buying habits are ever changing and pharmacy can be a first stop for many who are looking to pick a few bits up whilst in collecting a prescription. Traditionally pharmacy was all about P/GSL meds, bath and shower and general day to day sundries. But times have changed and people now want something different! Household is a big winner currently as well as a good value candle for example and whilst these won’t see a substantial addition to your takings it does help entice them to spend on other things in the pharmacy or even service.
Here are a couple of ones to think about that most haven’t considered – Greetings Cards and Jewellery…both provide reasonable margin and are a customer favourite.
There is so much potential that you are maybe just not aware of currently. The retail show aims to let you see some of this!
